Can hamsters eat Bananas?
Bananas are one of the most popular natural foods, these yellow fruits are a delicious and healthy treat that are loved by people across the plant. But we’re not the only ones who love bananas, they’re enjoyed by many pets too.
Can my hamster eat Bananas?
If you’re a hamster owner, you may wonder can your little hammie eat these fruits? Well, the answer is yes! Whilst many treats that people love are not safe for hamsters to eat, banana is an example of a human food that is safe for your little fluff ball to enjoy.
Most hamsters absolutely love bananas, in fact if you’re eating one yourself then you’ll often see your pet sniffing around, trying to make out what the delightful aroma is!
Hamsters can either be given fresh or dried banana that has no added sugar or preservatives.
Are Bananas good for Hamsters?
Hamsters should be fed a balanced diet that includes a good amount of healthy vitamins and minerals. Bananas can make up part of this diet as they are packed with lots of good things that help to keep hamsters healthy and happy.
Some of the most important nutrients found in bananas include:
- Vitamin B6 — great for the immune system, brain and nervous system
- Calcium — helps keep teeth and bones strong
- Magnesium — contributes to healthy muscles, bones, and cells
- Fibre — helps with digestion However, it is also worth remembering that a lack of water content in bananas means that compared to most fruits, they are higher in sugar and therefore calories. This means that hamsters should not be given anywhere near as much banana as humans would eat. If you’re introducing any new food to a hammie then you should always be wary, giving them a really small amount at first to ensure that their body accepts it.
